My dinner with Frank, Sammy & Dean

History, food, and service make the Golden Steer Steak House one of the best dining experiences in Vegas. The Steer is the oldest steak house in town, first opening its doors way back in 1958. When I recently ate there, I sat at the same table where Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr. and Dean Martin often dined. Other stars that frequented the Steer include Elvis and John Wayne.

The decor at the Golden Steer can best be described as a cross between elegant Victorian and old West. Comfortable couches and chairs fill the ample bar area, making it the perfect place for pre-dinner cocktail or post meal cordial and cigar.  Intimate booths, upholstered in black and red leather, line the dining rooms walls. Two separate banquet rooms make for the perfect party or special event.

The tuxedoed wait staff at the Golden Steer is courteous and professional. They specialize in tableside service. Our able waiter - Tom - delighted us by preparing a fresh and delicious Caesar salad. We also watched him expertly fillet a genuine Dover sole and finish our meal off with wonderful bananas Foster flambe. This is service the way it used to be and still should be!

The steaks at the Steer are large and perfectly grilled. They use the finest prime aged beef, bought from the renown “Newport” meat company. My extremely tender New York Pepper steak was grilled with fresh black peppercorns and topped with a scrumptious sauce. One of my dining guests had the aforementioned and delectable Dover sole. Another delighted in her chicken Marsala, while the third savored an absolute Golden Steer original called “Chicken of the Angels,” a  boneless breast of chicken dipped in egg batter, and sautéed with artichokes and mushrooms. Heavenly!

Other notable menu items at the Steer include generous cuts of prime ribs of beef; an appetizer of mushroom caps stuffed with seafood; a massive baked potato; and a Golden Steer classic, frog legs Provencal. A number of creative Italian dishes also highlight the large menu and the seafood selections include Alaskan King crab legs; jumbo Australian Lobster tail; and the hard to find, but tasty abalone.

The Golden Steer Steak House is owned by local developer and entrepreneur Dr. Mike Signorelli, while the front of the house is impressively run by longtime employees John and Jeff. The Steer currently opens for dinner beginning at 4:30 pm, but I was told that lunch service may soon be started. You can reach the Steer easily from the strip or the downtown area.
